About Us
KuBe (kyoob), n. 1. Kunsthalle (“art hall”) Beacon
The KuBe Art Center repurposes the site of the old Beacon high school as a space to promote international exchange of culture and art, as well as unite local and global artists in a community forum.
Acting as a platform for artists to continually create and present work to collectors, curators, and fellow artists, the KuBe also supports emerging artists through work spaces, residencies, and exhibitions for the Beacon and New York arts community. The KuBe encompasses the Beacon location of Ethan Cohen Gallery, experimental art spaces, 48 artists' studios, and commercial office spaces. The Turbine special projects room, the Zhu Chongmao and Zheng Ruyu Theater, and the Jerome A. Cohen and Joan Lebold Cohen Art Center comprise the remainder of the space. Future developments for the KuBe include an art café and a gallery concept store. The sprawling landscape and natural beauty of the historic Hudson Valley make the KuBe an ideal site for lectures and performances, film screenings, and avant-garde experiments amidst a growing artistic community.
We wish to extend an invitation to the Beacon community to participate in the growth of this important incubator for the next generation of promising local and international artists. Please join us in support of emerging artists and established artists from the U.S., Europe, Africa, China, and beyond.
History Of The KuBe
The Kunsthalle Beacon (KuBe) Art Center is housed in the former Beacon High School, a historic building that served the community from 1913 until its closure in 2002. During the 1930s, the school underwent an expansion funded by the federal Public Works Administration, reflecting its significance as a central educational institution in Beacon, New York.
In 2010, the building was acquired by Ethan Cohen, a visionary gallerist and founder of the Ethan Cohen Gallery. Alongside his co-creator Zhu Ceng, Cohen transformed the historic site into a dynamic arts hub, officially opening KuBe to the public in 2011. Today, KuBe is a thriving creative community, home to over 60 artist studios, 10 gallery spaces, and two libraries. The center also features expansive outdoor grounds and rooftop areas dedicated to sculpture, as well as a gymnasium that supports local athletic teams and an improv theater group.
Supported by the Joan Lebold Cohen and Jerome A. Cohen Foundation of the Arts, alongside the Ethan Cohen Gallery, KuBe continues to present world-class international art exhibitions and public programs. It has quickly become a cultural landmark, bringing together artists, curators, and audiences in an inspiring environment that fosters creativity and collaboration.
